ABOUT
KERCEL MONTES
IS A FILMMAKER
Based in Albany New York, Kercel focuses on creating stories that start conversation while uplifting black, brown and queer voices.
He has written, shot, directed, edited and acted in a number of projects, both narrative and documentary, and has begun producing his own work in recent years.
Kercel has demonstrated a number of leadership skills, including effective communication, civil discourse, conflict resolution and more, while being on the Board of Trustees at his institution, as well as advocating for the student body while acting as the Vice President of his school's SGA.
Kercel recently finished Be Great, a portrait doc about his late uncle Elijah Cancer’s legacy that was supported by Alliance for Arts and Media through the Power of Storytelling Grant.
Kercel has graduated from the Youth FX Summer Program and is now currently a member of the Youth FX Arts2Work Fellowship to develop his artistic craft throughout the 2025-26 year.
